I am married we live apart. He is working on paying the taxes he created because of his stupidity (45,000.) I have no debt and our house is rented out and pays for its self.
With us living separate lives I need to develop a budget I know. My big question is I am to receive a house when my Grandfather passes. This house has been in my family for 70 years and I would like to keep it. I also live in the house now.
At that time there will be a mortgage on the house maybe 100,000. and I will have to pay my brother around 130,000. Not sure with situation with husband how I go about getting the money to pay brother off. When this time comes I need to keep things as simple as possible. When my uncle died handling his estate with my brother and his wife was horrible and we no longer have a relationship because of it.
As I said I have no bills other than utilities and I pay grandpas insurance and property taxes on the house. I have an emergency fund of one years pay. Also put 50% of my paycheck into my 401k.
One option I was thinking was to refinance my house and take cash to pay off this house but not sure if that will be a possiblity till that time comes. Not sure if husband would allow.
Also thinking cut down or out my money to 401k and save in account toward payment to brother.
House is also not in great shape needs some work.
